Children are encouraged to listen attentively and talk about their experiences, thoughts and feelings in a variety of situations.  A wide range of resources are used to help the children to recognise letters, sounds and to extend their vocabulary.  Through free play and role play the children are gaining experience of social interaction and developing their imaginative skills.

During the daily routine children have many opportunity to enjoy and handle books and use reading schemes.  Songs, stories, poems and nursery rhymes are shared, and the children have opportunities to make up and share their own stories.
